Counselling in B.C.
In British Columbia, counselling is not a regulated profession, but many professionally trained counsellors join the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors, a self-regulating association.
Members are vetted for a combination of academic credentials (from accredited post-secondary schools) and personal references. Registered clinical counsellors (RCC) adhere to a code of ethics designed to protect the public. British Columbia is in the process of having counselling become a regulated profession under the Health Care Act. It is anticipated that this will be completed in 2025.
