Below are the most frequently asked questions about my counselling services.
If you have a question that is not addressed, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
What happens in the first session?
What happens in subsequent sessions?
Counselling is often called “talk therapy,” but it doesn’t have to involve only talking. If you find it difficult to express yourself through words, we can explore other approaches, like sandtray therapy, to help you access and express the thoughts and emotions that may be hard to articulate.
During our sessions, we’ll work toward the goals you set for therapy. I aim to provide you with educational resources, tools, and strategies that you can start using right away. If setting goals isn’t your thing, that’s perfectly fine. Sometimes we have a clear vision of what we want from counselling, and other times we’re unsure. Wherever you are, we’ll start with what’s most important to you in the moment. It’s completely normal not to know where you want to go or what you want for the future. Likewise, you don’t have to discuss past events or experiences unless you choose to.
Creating change and transformation doesn’t require focusing on every detail. Your current experiences and feelings will guide our journey together. The goals and methods we use in counselling are collaborative and ever-evolving. It’s important for you to continuously share your goals, preferences, insights, feedback, and concerns with me throughout the process. I’m here to support you every step of the way.
What happens in the ending session?
The termination of therapy is just as important as the beginning of therapy.
The end of therapy can be a positive experience with long lasting impacts. The last session can be a time to reflect on the course of our sessions together, celebrate the challenges and growth that has occurred, help you plan ahead for the future and gives us a chance to say goodbye.
What are the fees for the sessions?
Are my sessions covered by MSP or extended health insurance?
Fees for psychological services are not covered under BC Health Care (MSP). Most extended health care benefits insurance programs offer full or partial coverage for counselling services. Please check with your provider to confirm you have coverage. I do not provide direct billing to insurance companies. I provide receipts for your payments, which you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
How do I pay for the sessions?
Can I cancel my sessions?
Yes, you can cancel a session at no cost to you if more than 24 hours notice is given.
If you cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours notice or miss a scheduled session, you will be charged the full session fee. This policy also applies to clients whose fees are paid by third parties that do not cover late cancellations or missed appointments.
